What shoo talkin' 'bout Willis?
This morning, Dontrelle Willis was arrested on the suspicion of drnuken driving. According to ESPN.com, Willis, one of the game's young stars, was picked up at 4:30 AM Friday morning by the Miami Beach Police.He probably would have been able to just drive home, but he drew a bit of attention to himself by deciding to take a piss in the middle of a street. After getting caught with the ol' Alabama Blacksnake out, he refused to take a breath test.
It is a far cry from when everyone would just look the other way when athletes and other high profile people were picked up by the fuzz. There was no better police repellent than a famous person saying "Do you know who I am?" With the thirst of information from the public so prominent in society, nothing like this will be unspoken again.
Willis has been Florida's nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award -- presented annually to major league players displaying a commitment to community and understanding the value of helping others -- in each of the last two seasons. Ironic innit?

Of course, there's two double standards at work here. Either he gets let go and gets special treatment for being an athlete, or he gets booked and is skewered by the media.
The kid's 24 years old, let's not forget that. If any other 24 year old got a DUI, he'd get a talking to from his mommy, a short license suspension and a hefty fine. At least he didn't kill anyone with a machete or shotgun like "some" athletes have been known to do.
